LOG SCULPTURE AT POINT ROBERTS

LOG SCULPTURE AT POINT ROBERTS
Once regal trees,
Now sodden bodies,
Rudderless they sailed
Drifting on placid Pacific tides,
Then propelled by storming seas
To this deposit high on shore
To lie a tangled twist of wood,
Each log a wooden story.
Dry and bleached in view of Baker.
Cradled in sand they watch the sun
As it rises, passes, sets.
Soft to touch, to climb and sit on
They call the child and hiker to their joy,
And sometimes the artist to paint on canvas
Their complexity as a sculpture
A natural work of art.

A STORY DELIVERED BY A HUMAN VOICE

I lament for many children & youth who have not been enchanted by a piece of writing delivered by a human voice. Mine is a voice of experience, a nine-year-old voice. "I'm going to the library," I shout back to my friend who asks, "Where are you going?" It's Saturday and I'm on my bike heading to the public library. I call again, "Get your jacket and hop on your bike, I'll wait." "Next time," he shouts back. I arrive and head for the stacks. I know my way around. The staff knows me. They smile. I select adventures of several genres, westerns, space travel, sports, and biography. I sit on the floor reading. Waiting for ten o'clock. A chime sounds and I move. A librarian opens the reading room door and fifteen of us grab a chair. Eager. She reads. Doesn't matter what the story line is. We clap thanks for her and I check out my four books, treasures they are and home again. And for the week, when I'm not outside, I'm often nose in a book, glued to a plot. Television? What's that? Screen time? Internet?

At the Crossroads again

A NEW LEARNING
I am going to make it easy for myself. I ran out of time for a researched post so I will simply tell you that on Saturday Christine and I attended a wedding - a rather unique wedding. A youngish father of five children, divorced, married a woman nearly his age who was unmarried and had never before been married. She became the instant step mother of five children. She is brave, good for him, and will be a pleasant female influence upon those children. They truly care for her. The couple is deeply in love with one another. It's a redemptive story through and through.

They used a Brian Doerksen song called 'Lead Us Lord,'the words of which may be an encouragement to you for life situations quite unrelated to this couple's.

Here we stand
At a crossroads again
Like you said
In time the seasons change

Looking back
We recall the blessing and the pain
But now we turn our hearts toward
What is still to come
We want to dream again

Lead us Lord
Into a life of fruitfulness
Prepare our hearts to risk again
As we trust
Taking simple steps of obedience we know
That you will lead us Lord.

Look at Brian Doerksen's site if you like to find music you may want in your home or on your ipod.
