A LOOK BACK

A LOOK BACK

Unlike the man who entered adult years,
Slim, strong and handsome, filled with confidence,
Although untested in life’s new frontiers.
Primed with hope to enjoy the consequence,
His scroll unfolded the applause of peers,
A constant stream of sincere complements,
Infrequently disturbed by tender tears,
Integral to the plan of providence.
He stands now observing in mirrored glass
Reluctant changes to that younger form
Experience contained in timeworn skin
He is time-honored with a touch of class
Blessed with relationships loving and warm
Treasuring memories of where he’s been.

HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY CHRISTINE

My sweetheart turns 70 today, July 23rd. She was hoping that Kate's baby would be born today. He arrived one day sooner.

It's difficult enough coming to terms with my own 70 years plus a few months. Now I must adjust to be married to a seventy year old. But it's not all about me. She cannot believe she is 70. She feels like 50 she says. She looks stunning. She has been having a grand year, celebrating at different times, making an entire year's festivities of this birthday.

She recently had a day at the beach with her five grandchildren, and daughter Cari, a fine photographer took some memorable shots.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON?

I suppose that what I am experiencing may be explained naturally and genetically. I have been awakened at 3 AM hearing people talking in the courtyard of our complex, and hearing rain falling on the plants and pavement outside. Walking onto our deck I have realized there is no one there and it hasn’t rained for 27 straight days this July.

He spoke of neighbours living above him whose music and habits were so annoying that he was certain it was a deliberate attempt to get him to move. He was living in a apartment 411 in a building without age restrictions and he was persuaded that a couple with a teenage son lived in the fifth floor unit over his.

FOUR BOYS OF SUMMER

FOUR BOYS OF SUMMER

Summer days and bikes and slingshots
Boyhood memories I choose to tell
Beach and barefoot, hikes and slipknots
Retirement and grandboys partner well.

Four of us at unique stages
Two boys, a pre-teen, and older gent
Three live lively while one ages
They have forever while mine seems spent.

Then time spent with them blesses both
I’m inspired by their crisp touch on time
My tales and values nurture growth
All four assisted to make the climb.
